Artist Statement

Like many during the pandemic, I found my physical world suddenly narrowed in the spring of 2020.  Initially, the limitations and uncertainty felt like a prison, but I soon started finding refuge in daily walks, and then runs, around the neighborhood. During these daily jaunts, I became more attuned to the beauty and changes within my immediate surroundings.

Painting images from these places has made me feel even more connected to them. I started thinking of the trees on Willamette Boulevard as my trees, and I pay closer attention to them. Similarly, I delight when the sun shines through the branches in Arbor Lodge Park and hits the grass just so. In noticing these moments, these spaces have become more than just my neighborhood. They are an expansion of home. They are my sanctuary.

My paintings aim to capture the beauty, comfort, and solitude that I find here. I am forever grateful to live in such a beautiful place, and to have the time and space to paint it. Thank you for looking.
